Local 2704 "Made in America" Cookbook for sale!
The members of CIC Local Union 2704 in Dyersville, Iowa, have compiled a 120-page cookbook to raise money for local charities. The cookbook, entitled “Made in America,” contains over 300 recipes.
“Our members were anxious to contribute their favorite recipes and it’s all for a good cause,” said Janet Buckner, Recording Secretary of Local 2704. “We also feel that this fundraiser has the right 'Made in America' message and will help polish up the image of unions in our community.
”The first charity to receive a contribution from the sale of the cookbook was the local food bank and a hospice care unit. Here’s a sample of the home cooking comfort food recipes found in the cookbook:

Local 2930 in Jasper, Indiana ratifies a new 3-year contract with MasterBrand Cabinet on November 24th.
Local 2930 began contract negotiations with MasterBrand Cabinets on Sept. 15, 2008, and after a very long and drawn out process, voted to accept the company’s final offer on Nov. 24. The membership had rejected an earlier proposal and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service came in to help move negotiations along.
The company did improve on an earlier offer that had been rejected by the membership. Everyone recognized that the company has been in a real slump. Sales of kitchen cabinets were down dramatically. But despite the poor economic conditions the union was able to reduce members’ monthly contribution to the health care plan, increase wages by 2.75% the second year and 2.5% the third year. The pension plan was also improved. The grievance procedure was streamlined to provide a more timely process for settling disputes and the layoff and recall procedure was revised to better serve the membership. Dan Walbrun, UBC Representative, assisted with the negotiations. The Local 2930 negotiating committee consisted of Woodie Edwards, Flora Briggs, John Dixon, Roger Taber, Joe McLemore, Rose Schmitt and Marsha Reed.
